CT

Allow 1 Hour

  • Continue taking medications unless otherwise directed.
  • CT Abdomen/Pelvis: Nothing by mouth 6 hours before exam. Please pick up barium from Imaging Center 24 hours prior to exam. Follow Instructions.
  • Renal Function Test: If you are 50 years or older or have a history of diabetes, hypertension or renal disease, a blood test to assess your renal function is required if your CT examination has been ordered “with contrast”. If you are unsure about the need for this test, call the imaging center. A serum creatinine is the required test.
  • All CT Exams: Drink lots of fluids day before and day of exam.
  • If you have diabetes and/or are taking medication which is used to manage your blood sugar, e.g. glucophage, metformin, glucovance, metaglip or avandamet, you must stop your medication after your examination. You will get an order for a post procedure renal function test to be obtained two days after your CT examination and should not re-start the medication until your referring physician lets you know that the test is normal.

MRI

Time Varies

  • Inform staff if you have any implanted medical devices.
  • Continue taking medications unless otherwise directed
  • MRI Abdomen/Pelvis – No food or drink 6 hours prior to exam.
  • Renal Function Test: If you are 50 years or older or have a history of diabetes, hypertension or renal disease, a blood test to assess your renal function is required if your MRI examination has been ordered “with contrast”. If you are unsure about the need for this test, call the imaging center. A serum creatinine is the required test.

ULTRASOUND

Abdominal

Nothing to eat, drink or chew 6 hours prior to the procedure.

 

 Pelvic

Your bladder must be full for the exam.

  • Two hours before the appointment empty bladder. Do not urinate again until the exam is completed.
  • One hour before the appointment, drink 32 oz of water (4 glasses).
  • See the receptionist if you feel you must urinate prior to the exam.
